Actor to hold painting exhibition

Iranian actor Hamid Jebeli has set to hold an exhibition of his paintings titled ‘Sweet Nightmares’.

Curator of the exhibition, Kian Vatan, said “My generation knows Hamid Jebeli by his voice and face, but now it can be familiar with another of his abilities at this exhibit.”

“I’m really delighted that my efforts have produced such encouraging results as these artworks, which have rarely been seen before, will now be on display for the public,” the 41-year-old curator added.

Vatan also noted that the paintings cannot be categorized in any specific theme and Jebeli has drawn whatever he wanted.

Expressing his hope that he can convince Jebeli to let him organize an exhibition of his sculptures in the near future, Vatan said that he knows Jebeli as a painter and sculptor rather than an actor, adding “Jebeli has also created collections of drawings and sculptures.”

Some 40 paintings by the actor created over the past two years will be on display at Tehran’s Atbin Gallery.

To be opened on Friday, November 24, 2017, the exhibition will run until December 12.

Born in 1958, Jebeli started his career at the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults.

In 1978, he stepped on stage and marked the beginning of his professional career. Soon, he joined the cast of Adineh troupe and subsequently appeared in several TV dramas and programs most of which were comedies.

He made his small screen debut with ‘Boro Bia Neighborhood’ in 1982 and his first silver screen appearance was with ‘End Line’ in 1984.

While Jebeli found popularity on the small and silver screens, it was a puppet character that immortalized him.

In 1993, Jebeli and Iraj Tahmasb started a children’s program named ‘Kolah Qermezi’ (meaning Red Hat) in which he voiced the main characters Kolah Qermezi and his cousin Pesar Khaleh.

Jebeli has written and directed the movies ‘White Dream’ and ‘The Son of Maryam’ and cooperated in the production of many others as screenwriter.

From 1989 to 2005, he has appeared in a range of movies including ‘Mother’, ‘The Singing Cat’, ‘The Devoted’, ‘The Pastry Girl’, and ‘Under the Peach Tree’.
